Guest Faculty, Smithsonian Summer Institute in Museum Anthropology, 2026
Kate Hennessy is honoured to join the Smithsonian’s Summer Institute in Museum Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. as a Guest Faculty member for the last week of the program.
”The Summer Institute in Museum Anthropology (SIMA) at the Smithsonian seeks to promote broader and more effective use of museum collections – artifacts, audio recordings, art works, still and moving images - in anthropological research by providing graduate students with an immersive, four-week training program and research experience at the Smithsonian Institution. The SIMA Research Internship is a residential program held at the National Museum of Natural History. In support of each summer’s program, Collections and Archives Internships are offered to current students or recent graduates from archives, library science, museum studies, or anthropology programs.
The program is offered by the Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, with major funding from the Cultural Anthropology Program and the Documenting Endangered Language Program of the National Science Foundation.
SIMA summer internship opportunities include:
SIMA Research Internships – up to 12 internship appointments for four weeks including a $1500 stipend plus housing.
SIMA Collections Internships - 3 internship appointments offer a $3000 stipend for eight weeks each summer.
SIMA Archival Internships - 1 internship appointment offers a $3000 stipend for eight weeks each summer.
SIMA Faculty Fellowships – 2 appointments offer housing for four weeks each summer.
